Apocalyptic is possibly a little strong but the sea is currently brown with a huge swell and with 50mph easterlies today and the wind all over the tackle shop on the weekend it’ll be a while before it recovers.
Good news is the forecast (if anything written there can be believed going on current form) is for predominantly southerly and fishing-positive conditions from Sunday onwards.
We shall watch, rub lucky fishing curios, and most of all - hope.
The only fishing action to report on this week is the pioneering efforts of Wild Scraper who managed to sneak a couple of fish yesterday out of the only clean water along the entire North Norfolk coast. A lull in conditions and a risky 50/50 hunch delivered this autumnal feast.
But apart from that….
End of October and into November could be peppered with excellence, or, as per the rest of this season, be an unpredictable shit-show ending in tears and unfulfilled promise.
Still, despite everything that the meteorological deities have thrown at us this year, my money (no more than £3.50 though at this point) is on the former.
But, while the wind rages, the sea foams and storm Babet blows itself out, I’ve to make haste. With a new business to launch in November, next Friday will see the last of these newsletters for this year.🥺
The mid-week updates will continue until the fishing ends but my capacity to write both while birthing a needy and all-time-consuming start-up baby is currently akin to a cheap, non-Japanese 4-strand braid about to snap.
Thank you for all the support and for wadering through the fishing adventures, discoveries and recommendations of a decidedly frustrating but for the most part bountiful and memorable season.
Thanks to Wild Scaper, Paul Mason and Tom Pinborough for your insightful contributions and Matt at Basslures UK for the fun of creating (and catching).
Here’s hoping some may have found small value within these erratic but mostly enthusiastic meanderings.
Next week’s edition will hopefully include some actual fishing intel but only Babet knows for sure.
I’ll be going out on the best lures, terminal tackle, waders, boots etc of 2023 but for now, here’s the stand-alone fishing/life-affirming short film of this and possibly any other year.
Enjoy:
Be strong and hold the line (your hats, teeth and any garden furniture that’s not nailed down) until the clouds move on and the waters still once more.
