What a week. From the blue to the brown to yesterday’s mass bag up and my aching sack of bones of this morning.
After a 3 a.m. start yesterday and around 11 hours of fishing, feeling just a little jaded. Going to let the pics do the talking this week as the hook holes and gill rakes are not that conducive to typing at any great length or speed.
With 179 bass between the four of us (yes it’s a big number but as we shouted, screamed and giggled our way through each successful hook-up and release, you’re just going to have to believe me on this) it really was quite the day out.
And here are some of the highlight bends from a day of non-stop bending:
Most of my 40+ fish came on the large Iborn copy in Bora but also tried out the new R50 copies from BassluresUK which look and fish just like the real thing.
This was the magma sardine but all the colours worked. More on those when I’ve had a go with them on the reef which is where I believe they will really come into their own.
Stamp of fish for this time of year was a little disappointing with nothing over 5lbs but with the shear numbers of fish we got into on really mustn’t complain (hey DT?).
Biggest fish of the week (that I know of) caught yesterday morning in the dark by the overlord of the midnight himself - Mr Wild Scraper and weighing in at 8.8lbs.
A bit thin but what can you do?
Best fish of the week to Mark Hunt who, despite a dodgy shoulder, put in cast after cast to produce this on the fly:
Worth 20 of our 179 - well done that man.
What else?
Water temps are dropping, wind is currently raging but conditions should hold for the next week or two.
The big fish are now inshore and feeding up before migrating to warmer waters.
We are in the final throws but this is my absolutely favourite time of year.
Lumps abound, and the chance of a really solid fish is a really solid proposition with every cast.
So cast away people, cast away.
